We got some issues

Craig spent most of the day yesterday ripping out the rest of the floor and drywall. Unfortunately (or fortunately for me) there isn't enough space for both of us to work in there at the same time.
It looks like there is significant rot in the floor and in more places than we had expected.
It appears that there had been some patch up jobs in the past to temporarily cover up the problem. Now they will have to be fixed right, but we are not exactly sure how to do that, but I know we will figure it out.
I am going to give the plumber a call to get the toilet drain replaced and go from there.

Craig's home, now we're getting somewhere!

Craig dove right in and ripped out the toilet, I have to say that this isn't my favorite part of the remodel, I like the putting it all back together part.
We are doing our best to keep this mess contained to just the bathroom, unlike the kitchen remodel which disrupted the rest of the house. Carina is not happy about this though because she loves her baths and our bathroom just has a shower, and we are not happy because we have to share out bathroom with her but in the end it will be worth it all.
Just as we suspected, that corner between the tub and toilet were really rotten.
After some serious tugging and pulling, Craig was able to dislodge the tub, now we just have to get it outside.

Let the destruction begin....

While Craig was helping a friend move, I took it upon myself to start tearing out the bathroom. First I had to get all of the pictures, shower curtain, rod and towel bars down, then the real work begins.
The wall behind the shower surround just crumbled when I took it down.
Luckily the studs are still solid, but we will have to treat for mold before we put it back together.
I managed to also get the sink out. This house is 50 years old and I think the tub is the original cast iron tub, so we are not looking forward to taking it out, yet we are looking forward to it being out.

Bathroom Remodel 2008-Before Pics

This is how our nasty bathroom looked yesterday morning.
We call this Carina's bathroom because she uses it the most, and it is filled with all of her junk.
The floor between the tub and toilet is rotten and it has been that way for many years.
This tub surround is beyond cleaning anymore, it has permanent mildew and mold that just won't go away, yucky!

Alfred HitchCAT

As I was walking by Carina's room I saw the cats and thought it would make a great picture. Before taking the picture Rielly was staring intently at the cat shadow.

Whirlyball owie!

This is one of my many bruises from playing whirlyball on Saturday. It was a blast and worth all of the injuries I suffered. Here is a link to their website http://www.whirlyball.net/html/?go=gallery . Our friend Craig invited us and we had so much fun. This bruise was from the seatbelt and I have a matching one on the other side. I spent most of Sunday laying around, I was so sore and tired, I'm getting to old for this stuff.

Putting stuff back

I have started getting the pictures and things back on the walls, I am not excited about the way I have the fireplace mantel decorated, it looks too lined up or something so that is going to change, but it is feeling much homier now.
Craig made a top for the cabinet that he made a few years ago, he used the same countertop material that is on the fireplace and kitchen. I really like it, it will be much easier to keep clean. I spent most of this weekend cleaning and organizing, I got the old refrigerator and stove cleaned up and up for sale on Craig's list, I just hope they sell soon. My fishies!

I took a couple of videos of my gold fishes. I bought two more last week, I also had to get some snails because I was getting overrun with algae all of a sudden, but they seem to be getting it under control.

The grouting is finished!

The grouting is done and I couldn't be happier. We ended up putting the grout in with our hands and it made quite a mess, but I think it cleaned up nicely. We just have a few small detail items to finish up and we are done, I won't know what to do with myself. Actually we are giving ourselves two weeks off and then we start the demo of the old bathroom.
